New Delhi: On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the National War Memorial today to take part in the felicitation ceremony of the Golden Victory Torch.

PM Modi pays tribute to martyrs of 1971:

Reaching the reception ceremony, the PM paid tribute to the soldiers who were martyred in the war. During this, he mixed four torches with the torch lit at the National War Memorial. Significantly, these torches were rotated across the country.

Remembering the valor and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces personnel who sacrificed their lives in the Indo-Pak war of 1971, PM Modi tweeted, '50th Vijay Diwas But I do remember the valor and sacrifice of the freedom fighters, veterans and brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces. Together we fought the oppressive forces and won. Rashtrapatiji's presence in Dhaka holds special significance for every Indian.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also arrived to take part in the honor ceremony of the Golden Victory Torch on the occasion of Vijay Diwas. During this he issued the postal stamp. The Defense Minister tweeted, 'On the occasion of Golden Vijay Diwas, we remember the courage and sacrifice of our armed forces during the 1971 war. The 1971 war is a golden chapter in the military history of India. We are proud of our armed forces and their achievements.

President Ram Nath Kovind has gone to Bangladesh to participate in the celebrations organized on the 50th Vijay Diwas. On this day in 1971, Lieutenant General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, the Chief Martial Law Administrator of East Pakistan and the Commander of the Pakistani military forces based in East Pakistan, signed the 'Instrument of Surrender' for the formation of Bangladesh.
