Veteran leader of Mumbai trade union Sharad Rao passes away

Mumbai: Following a prolonged sickness, Veteran leader of the Mumbai trade union Sharad Rao passed away in the Maharashtra capital city on Thursday. He was 77.

Rao, who was earlier diagnosed as having cancer, breathed his last while being taken to a hospital for a session of physiotherapy in the noon hours.

It may be mentioned that several of the city’s major trade unions, including the Brihanmumbai Electric supply and Transport, were being headed by Rao.

Other highlights:

  • Rao is survived by his wife Shanta as well as two offspring Shashank and Shilpa.
  • The leader had been diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2014.
  • Following the disease, Rao underwent a surgery in which his esophagus was extracted.
  • Rao had been kept on a liquid diet after the surgery.
