KK Venugopal succeeds Mukul Rohatgi as new Attorney General

New Delhi: Senior Supreme Court advocate KK Venugopal was on Friday appointed as the new Attorney General of India.

Venugopal will succeed Mukul Rohatgi in the office as the latter had resigned recently seeking to return to active legal practice.

It may be mentioned that Venugopal is a Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan awardee.

KK Venugopal was born into a Nair-caste family in Kerala. He grew up in Mangalore, Karnataka. He received a law degree from Raja Lakhamgouda Law College, Belgaum, Karnataka, and also studied at St. Aloysius College in Mangalore.

His father, MK Nambiar, was also a noted barrister. He is the father to three children - one daughter and two sons.
