In the wake of the tragic tunnel collapse in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken proactive measures to assist the families of workers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel. A review meeting held on Saturday emphasized the government's commitment to providing essential services, including accommodation, food, and health facilities to those affected.

According to an official release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Chief Minister Dhami underscored the state government's dedication to supporting the affected families. The directive to the Garhwal Commissioner to arrange for accommodation, food, and health facilities in Chinyalisour and its vicinity reflects the government's swift response to the crisis.

Continuous coordination with the families of the trapped workers is a key aspect of the government's strategy, with regular updates on relief and rescue operations being provided. The Chief Minister has urged officials to take all necessary steps to eliminate obstacles hindering the rescue efforts.

The involvement of microtunneling expert Chris Cooper underscores the seriousness of the situation. Cooper arrived at the incident site to monitor and contribute his expertise to the ongoing rescue operation. The collapse occurred in the early hours of November 12, affecting the under-construction Silkyara Tunnel, a crucial component of the Chardham Project.

The 4531-meter tunnel, linking Gangotri and Yamunotri under the Radi Pass area, is part of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' ambitious Chardham Project. It is being constructed by NHIDCL through Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd. at an estimated cost of ₹853.79 crore.

The government's top priority is the safe evacuation of all workers trapped in the tunnel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly keeping a close eye on the rescue operation, with the state government extending full support to agencies working on the ground. The commitment to swift action and continuous updates reflects a united effort to address the crisis and ensure the well-being of those affected.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the challenges associated with major infrastructure projects and the importance of comprehensive rescue and relief efforts in times of crisis. As the rescue operations continue, the government remains focused on providing immediate assistance and support to the affected families, highlighting the resilience and unity in the face of adversity.
