New Delhi: Police has arrested the 37-year-old man from Nagpur who had sent a threat mail to the Reserve Bank of India Governor Urjit Patel on Sunday.

Patel received the email on February 23 in which the sender, identified as Vaibhav Baddalwar, threatened to harm him and his family members if he did not quit from his post of the RBI Governor.

A complaint was lodged by the Cyber Cell of Mumbai Police.

What the police found in investigation?

  • The email was sent from a cyber cafe in Nagpur.
  • A team from Mumbai police's cyber cell went to Nagpur to arrest the accused.
  • “We have arrested the accused from Nagpur in connection with the threat mail to the RBI Governor,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, cyber cell, Akhilesh Singh said.
  • He has been charged under Indian Penal Code section 506(2) (criminal intimidation) case.
  • Nagpur court remanded Baddalwar in police custody till March 6.
