Nainital: In a major setback to 9 rebel MLAs of Congress, the Nainital High Court on Sunday rejected their plea against their disqualification.

  • The plea was rejected by a single judge bench of Justice U C Dhyani.
  • The legislators have now appealed to the Supreme Court and hearing is scheduled at 1400 hours.

These are the rebel legislators:

Amrita Ravat, Harak Singh Ravat, Pradeep Batra, Pranav Singh Champion, Shaila Rani, Shailendra Mohan Singhal, Subodh Uniyar, Umesh Sharma and Vijay Bahuguna.

What rebel MLS said?

The rebel leaders had apprised the court that they had not acted against their party but had resentment against the functioning of former Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

Former Union Minister and senior lawyer Kapil Sibal was the counsel for the speaker and he opposed the plea of these rebel legislators.

Earlier, the Apex Court had directed Rawat to face the floor test on May 10.
