New Delhi: After a long political hustle-bustle on Jammu and Kashmir, BJP on August 05, finally succeeded to abrogated Article 370 and tactfully put an end to 72-years-long special constitutional status given to the state.

Enjoying majority in the Parliament, BJP government presented a resolution in Rajya Sabha, demanding scrapping of Article 370, which had already given nod by President Ram Nath Kovind.

According to the new government order, all sections of 370 will no longer be applicable in Jammu and Kashmir. Only one section will remain in effect. The second most important decision was to make Jammu and Kashmir a Union Territory and not a state. The Jammu and Kashmir has now been divided into two Union Territories i.e. Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

It is to be mentioned that there were 22 districts in the state till now. After the formation of two Union Territories, there will be 20 districts in Jammu and Kashmir and 2 districts in Ladakh. In this new set-up Leh has become the largest district in India, area wise as it spreads 45,110 square kilometers.

Here is the list of new districts:

Jammu and Kashmir

Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam, Doda, Ganderbal, Jammu, Kathua, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Poonch, Kupwara, Pulwama, Ramban, Rasai, Rajouri, Samba, Shopian, Srinagar, Udhampur.

Ladakh

Kargil, Leh.
