Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party supremo and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi has been admitted in the Kauvery hospital in Chennai on Thursday night due to his fragile health condition.

“Dr.Karunanidhi was readmitted with breathing difficulty due to throat and lung infection, he is stable and being treated,” the Kauvery Hospital officials said.

Few hours after he was admitted, Karunanidhi's daughter and Rajya Sabha member from the state, Kanimozhi said that her father's condition was improving. “He had some lung infection and breathing difficulty, but he is much better now,” said Kanimozhi.

Former TN CM hospitalised for second time in a month:

  • This is the second time the former CM has been hospitalised this month.
  • Karunanidhi had been admitted in Kauvery hospital for ‘optimisation of nutrition and hydration’, earlier, on December 1, the hospital staff stated.
  • The hospital at the time had said that the DMK chief was being monitored by a team of doctors and he was scheduled to stay in the hospital for a few days.
