Suresh Prabhu to flag off a new semi- high-speed train today

Mumbai: A new semi-high-speed train which has some features resembling an interior of an aeroplane was flagged off by the railway minister Suresh Prabhu here on Monday.

The train, named Tejas Express, will operate between Mumbai and Goa five days a week and has Wi-Fi and some other modern facilities.

The 20-coach train will gradually increase its speed which will will go up to as high as 200 kilometers per hour.

So far Bhopal- New Delhi Shatabdi Express is the fastest running train in the country with speed of 155 Kilometers per hour. The other Shatabdi Express trains have lower speed of 130 to 150 kilometer per hour.

In addition to Wi-Fi, the new train has facilities like Light Emitting Diode or LED screens , Close-Circuit Television cameras and coffee vending machines.

The new facilities have, however, jacked up the manufacturing cost. Each coach has cost around Rs three crores as against Rs 2.5 crores spent per coach of Shatabdi Express.

The semi-high-speech train attracted a large number of curious passengers of other trains waiting at other platforms. It began its maiden journey around three pm.
