New Delhi: Self-styled Godman Asaram Bapu’s interim bail petition was rejected on Thursday by the Supreme Court. He is accused in a case of rape and murder and pleaded for bail on medical grounds.

The bench comprising of justices Madan B lokur and RK Agrawal asked the director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to constitute a three-member team of doctors for Asaram’s medical examination.

Asaram Bapu requested the court to release him for a month or two so that he could visit Kerala for Panchkarma Ayurveda treatment.

Asaram’s senior counsel Raju Ramachandran assailed the high court order contending that it has not taken into account the ailments afflicting the self-styled godman.

The Rajasthan High Court had earlier denied Asaram Bapu’s bail plea.
