New Delhi: In what is perhaps India's most expensive double wedding, Subrata Roy's sons, Sushanto and Simanto Roy, tied the knot in a grand ceremony, creating ripples across the country. The chairman of Sahara Group showcased his opulent lifestyle and extensive connections during this extravagant celebration held in Lucknow in 2004, which became a major media event.

Known as one of India's costliest weddings, the budget for the unions of Sushanto and Simanto Roy is likely second only to Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal. The wedding festivities exceeded a budget of over 550 crores.

With more than 11,000 guests attending the celebrations, Subrata Roy rented a private jet to bring guests from around the world, turning the wedding into a four-day extravaganza.

Notably, apart from their sons' grand weddings, Subrato Roy also organized marriages for 101 underprivileged girls and provided meals to over 15,000 impoverished individuals during the festivities.

The wedding venue was adorned with foreign flowers, glittering prisms, and lamps, with over 100 dishes served during the event. Prominent figures from politics, business, and Bollywood graced the occasion, including Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Ambani, and Mulayam Singh Yadav. The ceremony featured performances by Shiamak Davar's troupe and the British Symphony Orchestra. The attire for the couples was designed by Rohit Bal and Sabyasachi.

The musical extravaganza took place at the lavish Sahara Auditorium in Lucknow's renowned hotel, Avadh Clarks. The ceremony boasted a global entertainment lineup and over 110 diverse cuisines. Sahara employees played a crucial role in managing the event, ensuring their presence at the venue for 24 hours.
