New Delhi: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital here on Sunday evening due to food poisoning.

The hospital sources claimed that the Congress president is doing fine now and is expected to be discharged on Wednesday.

"Sonia Gandhi was admitted to the hospital on Sunday due to food poisoning. She is well now and will be discharged soon," said DS Rana, chairman of the hospital's managing board.

Sonia Gandhi has been facing several health issues since long. A round of speculations regarding her health started after she fell ill during a road show in Varanasi in August 2016.

She was immediately taken to Delhi and admitted to the Army's Research and Referral Hospital before being shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

Sonia Gandhi was again admitted to the same hospital in November 2016 following viral fever. She was discharged a few days later. The speculations about her health were rife when she did not campaign for Congress in the February-March 2017 Assembly elections in five states.

Later in March 2017, she went abroad for health check-up and returned to India with her son Rahul Gandhi.
