Jammu: An Indian Army soldier was martyred on Tuesday in a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

Defence Ministry sources said in Jammu that the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire in Mankote area of the LoC in Poonch district.

"A soldier -- identified as Sepoy Pawan Kumar -- was martyred in the firing by the Pakistan Army," the sources said.

Indian positions have also retaliated to unprovoked ceasefire violation by the Pakistan army in the area.

Earlier on Monday, Indian Army gunned down five terrorists, foiling a major infiltration bid on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.

"Five terrorists were killed today by the army in Machil sector of the LoC where a major infiltration attempt by terrorists has been foiled.

"Five weapons have been recovered from the slain terrorists. The operation is still going on in the area," Defence Ministry spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia said.
