Six CRPF jawans injured in firing in Pulwama district

Srinagar: At least six security personnel were injured after some suspected militants opened fire on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy in the Pulwama district.

The incident took place at the Awantipora area of the district, on Monday, when the jawans were on their way to Srinagar from Jammu. Militants attacked the vehicle carrying CRPF jawans of 97 battalion.

"Our companies were going from Jammu to Srinagar. We were fired upon by terrorists. Six personnel are injured and are taken to the hospital. It's a sensitive time. The separatists have called for boycott of elections. We are on high alert. The CRPF is doing its duty," Bhavesh Chaudhary, Public Relation Officer of CRPF stated.

The injured were immediately taken to the nearby hospital where the doctors said that their conditions are critical. Doctor stated, "The condition of the jawans are not stable. We are trying our best to save their lives."

The incident comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the longest tunnel of Asia Chenani-Nashri on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

It may be mentioned that, on April 2, 14 policemen were injured in the grenade blast. The grenade was hurled at the police party next to Ganj Bakhsh park in Nowhatta area of Srinagar.
