Shopian: Militants attacked the police post, steals five SLRs

Srinagar: Militants barged inside a police post guarding the court complex of southern Shopian district in South Kashmir and took away five Self-loading rifles from them.

The incident took place at around 2100 hours at the guard room of the Shopian district court complex, where the terrorists snatched the rifles from the policemen.

  • A high alert was sounded in the district and a manhunt has been launched for the terrorists.
  • The terrorists were suspected to be the part of Hizbul Mujahideen.
  • Around five policemen have been suspended in connection with the incident.

The police official said, "Two guards were overpowered by them after which they decamped with five service rifles.”

It may be mentioned that the incident took place just after a day when 5 police personnel and two bank officials were shot dead by the terrorists in Kulgam District of Jammu and Kashmir.
