Shahabuddin to be behind the bars again, Supreme Court cancels bail

The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the bail of the controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal politicial Mohammad Shahabuddin. The apex court told the Bihar government to take Shahabuddin into custody immediately.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the bail of the controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal politicial Mohammad Shahabuddin. The apex court told the Bihar government to take Shahabuddin into custody immediately.

Shahabuddin, a former RJD Member of Parliament, was accused in over 40 cases of murder, extortion and kidnapping.

Chandrakeshwar Prashad, a resident of Siwan district in Bihar, whose three sons were allegedly killed in 2004 on Shahabuddin's orders had petitioned for cancellation of his bail. Rajiv Roshan, Prashad’s eldest son and a witness to the murder of his two brothers was shot dead in 2014.

The controversial gangster-turned-politician was granted bail on September 7 after 11 years in jail, He had staged a massive show of strength and also challenged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was applauded for ending what many describe as the reign of terror a decade ago.

After his release, Mohammad Shahabuddin was spotted with wanted criminals.
