New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave the Center another month to implement its decision to give permanent commissions to all serving SSC women officers in the army. A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said that the Center has to follow all the directions given in the court's decision.

The court's instruction came on an application filed by the Center, citing the corona virus (COVID-19) epidemic, seeking six months to implement the verdict.

Permanent commission for women in Army:

On 17 February, the Supreme Court, in an important decision, asked to give permanent commission in the army to all women officers. Those who want to opt for this option within three months. The Center, in its plea, cited physical capabilities and social norms behind not giving women command posts.

The court said, 'It should change the mindset about women and bring true equality in the army. Women work shoulder to shoulder with men.'

Court said, 'The attitude for women that they are not fit as men is wrong. It's been more than 70 years of independence and this mindset should change.'

Meanwhile, On Tuesday, an encounter between Indian security forces and terrorists took place in Pulwama Gusu area of ​​Jammu and Kashmir. The army killed a militant in this encounter so far. At the same time, two soldiers faced injury in this joint operation of police, CRPF and Army. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where an Indian soldier was martyred.
