New Delhi: Jharkhand cadre IPS officer Rajiv Jain and Anil Dhasmana, 1981-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre, were elevated as the new Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chiefs, respectively.

Both the officers will serve as the head of their departments for two years.

Apart from these two appointments, Lt Gen. Bipin Rawat has been appointed the new chief of Army Staff, while Air Marshal BS Dhanoa will take charge as the new chief of Air Staff.

The new IB chief, currently serving as the Special Director in the IB, will take charge from January 1 after the incumbent Dineshwar Sharma will complete his two-year tenure on December 31.

The 1980-batch officer is also a President's Police Medal and during his service has served in various departments of the IB including the sensitive Kashmir desk.

He has also served as advisor to the previous NDA government's interlocutor on Kashmir, KC Pant, when the government was in talks with separatist leaders like Shabbir Shah.

Anil Dhasmana will take over as the RAW chief after incumbent Rajinder Khanna completes his tenure in the office.

Dhasmana has been associated with RAW for the last 23 years and during the period, he has also taken care of the important desk of Pakistan.
