Rail track near Kanpur was axed ahead of PM's Lucknow rally!

Kanpur: A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) along with RPF DIG, Rajaram on Thursday visited the railway track near Kanpur, where a major train derailment was averted on January 1 due to the attentiveness of a railway patrol team.

RPF DIG had smelled a major conspiracy to damage the rail track just ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lucknow rally on January 2.

A team comprising of CBI officials, RPF DIG, GRP and Railway officials visited the incident site and found that railway line was axed in a bid to deliberately damage the busy rail track between Kalyanpur and Mandhana stations of Farrukhabad-Kanpur Anwarganj section.

Earlier, fish plates and elastic rail clips were found removed on the track with railways suspecting it to be an act of sabotage.

RPF DG, SK Bhagat had sought a CBI enquiry in the complete episode which could have turned fatal, if the damage was not detected on time.

“It is a serious issue and has national ramification. So we decided to seek CBI help since they have expertise,” Bhagat had said after the incident came into light.
