Present- day- India does not have one " blind king"  but many

New Delhi: some of the politicians across the country have not learnt any lesson from the epic, Mahabharata. The latest to join the list is Lalu Prasad Yadav. He continued to side with his son, Tejashwi Yadav, although there was a prima facie evidence against him in the Patna land scandal.

The result of this blind love, as in some other cases, is loss of power. Nitish Kumar has proved his majority and his government has survived, leaving the duo in the cold. The family has pinned all its hope now on the high court which will hear the case on Monday ( tomorrow).

The court may not come to his rescue as the governor of a state has several discretionary powers under the constitution and he can invite any one to form a government who, he thinks, can provide a stable government.

Article 162 (2) is unambiguous in this connection to a lay man. "If any dispute arises whether the power of governor is his discretionary power or not, his decision shall be final and binding", reads the article. The court has, however, listed the case for hearing and the final verdict will be known the next day.

But to be fair to Lalu, he is not the lone politician who has gone blind to whimsical demand of his son. Reading in between the lines most of the people were aware that Nitish can go to any extent as he is not satisfied by his son's action. Lalu could have also read it but he could not force his son to change his stance.

Another member of the Yadav clan who has suffered son-stroke is Mulayam Singh Yadav. Ignoring advice of many party men Mulayam in his love for son got him elected as leader of the party who subsequently became the chief minister five years ago.

The result is known to all. Not only did the party lose credibility but also power. The rival BJP, for the first time, bagged more than record 300 seats in 2017 assembly elections.

The blind love for son or daughter, incidentally, has led to dynastic rule . The main opposition, the Congress, too has to face this charge.

There is no regional issue involved in these cases. At least one family in the south-- Karunanidhi family-- is as much to blame in this connection as these three families in the north. Not only has Karunanidhi promoted his son but also his daughter, Kanimozhi.

The daughter has not added anything to his glory. She was arrested and jailed in connection with a case known widely as 2G Scam.

This is not the end. The list of modern Dhritrashtra is painfully long.
