Prakash M. Heda, An Orthopedic Surgeon With A Difference

Mumbai. Dr Prakash M. Heda, a reknowned Orthopedic Surgeon is not only a surgeon but is a outstanding social worker and philanthropist.

A humble begining

Coming from a humble background and being a farmer's son, born at wardha {Maharashtra}, Dr Heda was instilled with a culture of giving and community care at very early age. The quest for education and ambition spring-boarded him at every step from the village to Nagpur where he received his first degree in medicine MBBS and later higher degree in Mumbai. After receiving his master’s degree in orthopedics and a couple of fellowships from both India and the western world, life presented him international opportunities. His univocal choice was Africa, staying true to the culture of serving the community in a developing environment as opposed to profit focused developed world.

Being Unstoppable Isn’t Talent, it’s a mindset!

Dr Heda's tenure in Africa began with academics, lecturing at the university of Nairobi. Through zeal of hard work and social networking, he created his own path to private practice effectively at Nairobi hospital treating patients of all strata of society, irrespective of financial background, status or origin. At the time, he also served on various committees and boards shaping medical practice.

Academics being his foundation, he continued to incorporate the world ,for example the Jaipur foot project ,catering to the physically disabled. His competencies include trauma, road traffic accident carnage , helping the physically disabled, teaching, installing professionalism in medical practice and planning a role “spring board “ to the needy.

Affiliations

Professional growth has led to many reputed affiliations and elected responsibilities, of which the most prominent is him being the Vice President of SICOT (Societe Intentional de Chirurgie Orthopedique et de Tramatologie) the largest orthopedic organization of the world and “Long Service Award 2011 “given by the orthopedic association.

Charitable Work

Dr Prakash Heda continues to do charity work in both in the medical and the community space and awards till date bestowed for service and excellence to name a few include :

- O.G.W. (The order of grand warrior of Kenya)

- E.B.S. (Elder of the of Burning Spear)

Both above conferred by then president, H.E President Daniel T.Arap Moi., C.G.H., MP, President, & Commander –in-Chief of the armed forces of the republic of Kenya.

- Pravasi Bharatiya Damman awardee 2019.

- Goodwill ambassador for peace and the golden rule international award- for inter faith peace –building initiative and winning the hearts the poorer of the poor, equally high and mighty, Kampala, Uganda.

- Doctorate of professorship award –by United Graduated College and Seminary International, USA.

- Long service award 2011 –by Kenya orthopedic association Nairobi Kenya.

- Global Visionary award 2015 –by World Vision Foundation, Ahmedabad.

- Hind Ratan2012 - by non-resident Indians welfare society of India New Delhi.

- Best achiever 2011-by indo –Africa chamber of commerce and industries, Mumbai.

- Global Nagpuri Star award 2019- by Nagpur, Maharashtra.

- Patron –Maharashtra Mandal Nairobi, East Africa, Hindi Samiti -Kenya

- Pro chancellor –Lukenya University, Kenya.

- Member of The relief and welfare board of Hindu council of Kenya.

Tree plantation program

Back in India Dr Heda helped to plant the trees with various organizations, particularly at Nagpur and other parts of Maharashtra.

Actively involved in one million tree plantation program in Kenya with Lukenya University.

Organized international conferences particularly to introduce use of seatbelts and traffic safety awareness in Kenya and India. Regular assistance in India /Kenya for: Scholarships, books and stationery etc. for needy students Sarees for Adivasi community, Food distribution to hunger stricken areas.

Being associated with Maharashtra Mandal, Nairobi and East Africa Hindi samiti he was instrumental to spread Marathi and Hindi throughout the globe as he visited more than 70 countries so far.

His service, above professional gain or growth has always been towards humanity, irrespective of any borders, physical, financial or generational and he continues with no less steam than when he began.

Dr Heda is widely travelled and he s been involved with several philanthropic activities and served in various capacities As a worker member, chairperson, trustee, patron and advisor of several organizations.
