PM Narendra Modi condoles the death of Balraj Madhok

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday condoled the death of founder leader of erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Balraj Madhok.

Madhok died this morning. He was 96 and was ill for sometime. He breathed his last at around 0900 hours at his New Delhi residence. In his tweet, Modi said Madhok “was selflessly devoted to the nation and society” and “his ideological commitment was strong and clarity of thought immense”.

Had the good fortune of interacting with Balraj Madhok ji on many occasions. His demise is saddening. Condolences to his family. RIP.

About Madhok:

  • He was born on February 25, 1920 in Skardu now in Pakistan.
  • Madhok was educated in Srinagar and Lahore.
  • He became the member of RSS in Lahore in 1940.
  • Madhok became a full-time member of the RSS in 1942.
  • Was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1961.
  • Madhok served as the president of the Jana Sangh in 1966-67.
