PM Modi interacts with Paralympians; Key points of his address!

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today interacted via video conferencing with the Indian Para-athlete team going to participate in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. In the Paralympic Games to be held in Tokyo from August 24 to September 5, 54 para-athletes will participate in 9 different sports events from India.

PM Modi wished all these athletes to perform their best in Paralympic Games and win maximum medals for the country. India will start its campaign at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 with archery events in the women's and men's categories on August 27.

Earlier, at the beginning of this virtual program, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur thanked PM Modi for his support to the athletes of the country.

The Sports Minister said, "Your encouragement being given to the athletes in the country will motivate the youth to move ahead in the field of sports and bring laurels to the country in this." Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was also present in the program.

PM Modi encourages para-shooter Jyoti Balan

Praising para-shooter Jyoti Balan, PM Modi gave him his best wishes for the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. The PM said, "This is your first Olympics. Your parents have fought a lot for you. You are an inspiration to all. I would like to appreciate your mother who bravely faced every challenge. You A great daughter and sister. This country will take inspiration from your struggle."

Modi said: "You will turn 50 in the next 2 years. You've worked hard on your fitness. I think you will be giving a present to your brother, this Raksha Bandhan."

"Covid-19 may have increased your hardships but you people have never given up, this is real sportsmanship. Your medal is very important but new India will not pressurise our athletes to win the medal, you just need to give your 100%," PM Modi told Paralympians.

Even Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur thanked PM Modi for taking time out from his busy schedule to extend his support to para-athletes across the country. He said: "Your encouragement will motivate the youth to take up sports and do well in it."
