PM Modi Inaugurates India's First Elevated Dwarka Expressway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic moment on Monday by inaugurating the Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram. The eight-lane high-speed expressway is not only a significant infrastructural achievement but also India's first elevated urban expressway. Anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion between Delhi and Gurugram, the expressway boasts a host of features that set it apart.

The Haryana section, covering a distance of 19 kilometers, is a crucial segment of the Dwarka Expressway project and comes with a hefty price tag of approximately Rs 4,100 crore. Designed as a single-pillar flyover with eight lanes, it promises to revolutionize the commuting experience for thousands of daily travelers.

Key Features of the Dwarka Expressway:

Elevated Urban Expressway: The Dwarka Expressway is the country's first elevated urban expressway, spanning 19 kilometers in Haryana and 10 kilometers in Delhi.

Innovative Design: With four multi-level interchanges, tunnels, an at-grade road section, and flyovers, the expressway showcases a cutting-edge design aimed at optimizing traffic flow.

Single Pillar Flyover: A unique engineering marvel, the expressway features a 9-kilometer-long, 34-meter-wide elevated road supported by a single pillar—an unprecedented design in India.

Longest and Widest Urban Road Tunnel: The stretch includes the longest (3.6 kilometers) and widest (eight-lane) urban road tunnel in India, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time.

Strategic Connectivity: Dwarka Expressway connects Dwarka Sectors 88, 83, 84, 99, 113 with Sector-21 and the proposed Global City in Gurugram, providing a vital link for residents and businesses.

Automated Toll Collection: The expressway incorporates sophisticated safety mechanisms and fully automated toll collection, ensuring a seamless and efficient transportation system.

Alternate Airport Access: Offering an alternative route to the Indira Gandhi International Airport through a shallow tunnel, the expressway enhances airport connectivity.

Stages of Construction: The construction unfolds in four stages, from Delhi to Gurugram, ensuring a systematic and well-planned execution.

Scale of Construction: The project is estimated to consume 2 lakh MT of steel (30 times that of the Eiffel Tower) and 20 lakh cubic meters of concrete (6 times that of the Burj Khalifa).

The inauguration of the Dwarka Expressway signifies a significant stride towards improving connectivity and reducing congestion in the bustling Delhi-Gurugram corridor. As the construction progresses through its various stages, it promises to redefine the travel experience for millions while contributing to the nation's infrastructural prowess.
