P Chidambaram's arrest is a 'good news' for Indrani Mukerjea

Mumbai: The jailed media baron Indrani Mukerjea has turned a fate decider for former finance minister P Chidambaram who is in the CBI custody in the INX media money laundering case.

Indrani, who has turned an approver in the case, has called the Chidambaram's arrest as 'good news'.

"It is good news that P Chidambaram has been arrested," said Mukerjea outside a Mumbai court. She is the prime accused in the Sheena Bora killing case.

Mukerjea and her husband Peter co-founded the INX Media company, which was founded in 2007 when Chidambaram was the finance minister.

CBI has accused the then finance minister of facilitating a huge foreign investment into INX Media.

Sources close to CBI said that the agency started its proceedings on statement of Indrani against the veteran Congress leader and his son Karti Chidambaram.

Indrani, in her statement, claimed that the former Union minister had asked her to help his son Karti Chidambaram in his business and make overseas remittances in lieu of granting Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to INX Media.

Chidambaram was arrested on August 21 by the CBI in the INX Media corruption and money laundering case.

Indrani had also challenged the court's decision of giving bail to Chidambaram's son in the case.
