Odisha: Bus carrying 30 people falls from bridge; 12 killed

Cuttack: At least nine people were killed after a private bus carrying around 50 people fell from a bridge.

The incident took place on the Mahanadi bridge in Jagatpur. The injured are being treated at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Rescue teams have reached the accident spot soon after the accident happened. The bus fell off the bridge after it hit a buffalo.

The chief Minister of Odisha naveen Patnaik announced Rs 2 lakhs ex-gratia relief next of kin of the deceased and free treatment for those injured.

The bus was on its way to Cuttack.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of passengers.

PM took to Twitter and posted, "Condolences to those who lost their loved ones due to the bus accident in Cuttack. May the injured recover at the earliest."
