There was no to open the sanctum sanctorum in the Mahakal Temple, according to the officials associated with the Temple Committee.

A meeting of the Committee was held on Saturday evening where this issue was discussed. Ujjain district magistrate said that it is not possible for two lakh people to have darshan every day. The sanctum sanctorum is closed for general devotees from July 4, 2023. However, it has been kept open for VVIP devotees.

The meeting of Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee was held in Mahakal Lok Control Room under the chairmanship of Collector and Temple Committee Chairman Kumar Purushottam. There was also discussion about completing the remaining work under the expansion plan on priority and making the route of gate number five a smart road.

The Collector said that there was no intention to ban the sanctum sanctorum of Mahakal Temple. The problem is that whenever you enter the sanctum sanctorum, 200 people can have darshan in an hour. If entry is given for ten hours, 2 thousand people can come. If two lakh people come every day, then from where will one lakh 98 thousand people come for darshan.

Before the start of Shravan month in Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, it was decided in the meeting of the management committee that entry into the sanctum sanctorum will be restricted during the month of Shravan from July 4 to September 11. However, during two months, crores of devotees had come to visit Mahakal temple. Due to closure of entry into the sanctum sanctorum, outside devotees have been able to have darshan easily through the barricades.

Entry for common devotees into the sanctum sanctorum of Mahakal temple is restricted from July 4. Even after this, many VIPs are entering the sanctum sanctorum and having darshan. Earlier, CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan had darshan with his family while Kailash Vijayvargiya also came to have darshan with his family after getting the ticket. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had also recently visited the sanctum.
