Nirbhaya Case: Supreme Court to hear Centre's appeal Today

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind already rejected mercy petition of Nirbhaya rape and murder case verdicts. After the date has been postponed for hanging the rapists, Centre challenged the decison of Delhi Court.

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear on Friday the Centre's appeal challenging the Delhi High Court's verdict dismissing its plea against stay on the execution of the four death row convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case.

Centre challenged the decision of Delhi Court:

The Supreme Court already rejected the curative petition of three of the four guilty in the case. Justice, Suresh Kaith will decide the future of Nirbhaya rape and murder case verdicts.

Additional Solicitor General K M Natraj, appearing for the Centre, mentioned the matter for urgent listing before a bench comprising justices N V Ramana, Sanjiv Khanna and Krishna Murari. Natraj told the court that jail authorities are unable to execute the convicts in the case despite the fact that their review petitions have been dismissed and curative petitions and mercy pleas of three of them rejected.

Nirbhaya’s Mother said convicts Lawyer challenged her:

“Mujrimom ke vakeel AP Singh ne mujhe aaj anguli dikha kar challenge kiya ki ye faasi ab anant kaal tak tal gayi hai (Today, the convicts AP Singh pointed fingers at me and challenged me that he will get the hangings to be postponed till eternity),” Nirbhaya’s mother when court postponed the date.

Nirbhaya was Fighting for Life:

A 23-year-old physiotherapy intern who came to be known as “Nirbhaya” was gangraped and savagely assaulted on the night of December 16, 2012, in a moving bus in South Delhi. On 28 December, at 11 am, her condition was extremely critical. The chief executive officer of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital said that the victim suffered brain damage, pneumonia, and abdominal infection. Till her last breath she was fighting for life but on 29th December she died.
