Unseasonal Rains and Hailstorms Forecasted for Central and East India

Dense fog continues to cast its veil over several parts of North India, creating a ripple effect on daily commutes and travel plans. As the meteorological department predicts this atmospheric phenomenon to persist for the next three days, it is imperative to understand the current scenario and its implications.

In the heart of the nation, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh are grappling with reduced visibility, impacting both road and air travel. Despite a slight improvement from 500 meters to 600 meters in Delhi's visibility, the overall situation remains challenging.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of ongoing dense fog in Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar until January 2, 2024. Furthermore, it predicts a worsening of cold wave conditions in the region leading up to New Year’s Eve.

This atmospheric challenge has not spared the aviation sector. With approximately 80 flights delayed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport by 8:30 am on Saturday, passengers face uncertainties in their travel plans. The persisting bad weather conditions have also led to the cancellation and rescheduling of several Delhi-bound flights.

Train services have not been immune to the impact either. Poor visibility on Friday and Saturday resulted in delays for multiple trains, adding to the woes of commuters. As travelers navigate through these disruptions, it is crucial to stay informed about the dynamic situation.

Temperature differentials across the affected regions add another layer of complexity. While most parts of North India, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan record minimum temperatures in the range of 7-11°C, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, interior Odisha, and Jharkhand experience slightly higher temperatures between 12 to 14°C. The IMD anticipates a gradual rise in minimum temperatures in central India over the next four to five days.

Looking ahead, the weather department foresees snowfall and light rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand for the next two days. Meanwhile, South India, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry, is expected to witness rainfall until January 2, 2024.

In conclusion, as dense fog continues to impact North India, vigilance and flexibility in travel plans are key. Stay tuned to weather updates and transportation advisories for a smoother journey during these challenging conditions.
