Muslim women doing jobs is against Islam, says Deoband’s Maulana

Saharanpur: In a controversial statement, Maulana of Deoband and State President of Tanzeem Ulema-e-Hind, Nadeem-al-Awadi on Monday said Muslim women should not be employed with any private or government jobs. He said women doing jobs is against Islam.

“Muslim women need not to do any kind of jobs whether it is governmental or private. It is against Islam.” he said.

Nadeem-al-Awadi said it is the duty of Muslim men to bear the expenses of the household while work of women is to take care of home and children.

Nadeem said that the job of women is justified only if there is no man to afford house expenses. “In that case also, women should cover themselves with proper purdah,” he added.

It may be mentioned here that the Maulana of Deoband has always remained in controversies.

Earlier, Darul Uloom Deoband, the country's prominent Islamic institution, had issued a fatwa, saying, “Speaking ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ is not justified for Muslims.”
