New Delhi: The Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, who is here on a three -day visit, announced that his government was keen to upgrade the infrastructure in his country.

Addressing a a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, he said his country was ready to partner with any one who is willing to cooperate with his country in this regard.

The Egyptian President, who was invited by The President of India, described his country's ties with India as old and very resilient.

What else did Sisi say:

  • Egyptian President who is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, top officials and business leaders, said that India and Egypt have a strong economic relationship.
  • “India is the sixth largest trading partner of Egypt and the second largest export destination,” stated the Egyptian President recalling that India's imports from Egypt was worth $1.74 billion during 2014-15.
  • Sisi also appreciated India’s efforts to maintain strong ties with the nation and said, “Indian businessmen have invested nearly $3 billion in about 50 companies in Egypt and have given employment opportunities to around 35,000 Egyptians.”

What Prime Minister Narendra Modi Said:

  • The Indian PM, while addressing the conference appreciated the efforts of the Egyptian government and said, “President Abdel FattahAl-Sisi and I held extensive discussions on the shape and substance of our partnership. We have agreed to build on multiple pillars of our relationship.”
  • Stating Egypt as a natural bridge between Asia and Africa, Modi said that both the government have agreed to further their defence and security engagement which would aim at greater information and operational exchanges to combat terrorism.
  • “The growing radicalisation and terror pose a threat not only to India and Egypt but to the world as well,” said PM Modi.
