Mumbai: Following protests in different districts of Maharashtra, the Maratha community members will hold a silent march in Pune on Sunday.

“The march will likely begin in the morning hours and continue till late afternoon. Moreover, 10 to 15 lakh people are expected to turn up for the event,” said organisers.

It may be mentioned that the community has been holding rallies in various parts of the state including Nashik, Akola, Latur, Jalna, Nanded, Ahmednagar, Osmanabad as well as Navi Mumbai. The community began holding protests in the wake of a Maratha girl’s rape and murder by Dalit men in the state’s Ahmednagar district.

Moreover, these protests are aimed at pressing the government for the demands of the community including justice to the victim, education and employment quota for Marathas as well as abolishment of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
