Parrikar cremated with full State Honour; Laid to rest at Miramar Beach

According to sources, Parrikar had been on life support system since late Saturday night. He had been unwell since February 2018 when he was diagnosed with a pancreatic ailment.

Manohar Parrikar to be awarded state funeral, Last rites to begin at 4pm

Panaji: Thousands gave tribute to Goa's four time Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar with teary eyes as his body was cremated with full State Honour here on Monday. The former defence minister died on Sunday around 6.40 pm, at the age of 63.

Parrikar's son lit the Pyre as rituals were performed as the Hindu religion. Parrikar's final journey began from Kala Academy in Panjim.

MHA Joint Secretary S K Shahi, in an order issued on Sunday, said the Ministry of Defence is requested to make arrangements for state funeral with full military honours.

"It has been decided by the government that state funeral will be accorded to the departed dignitary," Shahi has said in the circular.

Mortal remains of Manohar Parrikar being moved from residence in Donapaula to BJP office, so that people can pay last respect to him.

His mortal remains were kept at the BJP head office in Panaji for an hour after which he was taken to Kala Academy for people to pay their last respects. The funeral procession to Miramar started at 4 pm, and the Antim Kriya was performed at 5 pm.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh went to Goa to pay their respects to Parrikar.

In a tweet, President Ram Nath Kovind said, "Extremely sorry to hear of the passing of Shri Manohar Parrikar, chief minister of Goa, after an illness borne with fortitude and dignity.

"An epitome of integrity and dedication in public life, his service to the people of Goa and India will not be forgotten," the President tweeted from his official handle.

Parrikar is survived by two sons and their families.
