New Delhi: The Centre’s decision not to provide reservation to other backward castes( OBC) in teaching jobs such as those of professor and associate professor has given a new stick to former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to beat the government.

“This decision will go against the interest of the backward castes. People seeking appointment on these posts will find it more difficult now,” said Yadav in a provocative tone. The decision has been already implemented.

His Rashtriya Janata Dal will oppose the decision tooth and nail. What has “hurt” him most is that such a decision has been taken by the government despite Prime minister Narendra Modi himself belonging to one of these castes.

The University Grants Commission has already informed all the 40 central universities in this regard through speed post. In view of this decision the 27 per cent reservation policy for the OBC will apply for assistant professor’s position only.

The scheduled castes and scheduled tribes will continue to get reservation benefits on these jobs.
