New Delhi: The new heads of the commission have been decided in the midst of the elections in several states of the country. According to media reports, Sushil Chandra will be the next Chief Election Commissioner of the country.

It is being told that on Sunday, the government has approved his name for the biggest post of the Election Commission. However, its order is yet to be issued, which can be issued anytime.

According to reports, Sushil Chandra will take over on 13 April. He will be relieved of this new post on 14 May 2022. Sunil Arora is currently serving as the Chief Election Commissioner, who is about to retire. Sushil Chandra was appointed Election Commissioner on 14 February 2019 before the Lok Sabha elections.

Let it be said that like the Supreme Court, it has been a tradition to appoint the most senior commissioner here as the Chief Election Commissioner and this decision is also being considered in accordance with the same tradition. Therefore, his name has been approved for the top post in 'Election House'.

Who is Sushil Chandra?

Sushil Chandra was born on 15 May 1957. He is a 1980 batch IRS (Indian Revenue Service) officer. Talking about his education, he is also an IITian and knowledgeable of the law. He has studied B.Tech from IIT Roorkee. At the same time, he has done LLB from DAV College, Dehradun.

Work Experience:

As an IRS officer, he has served in states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra etc. He has worked extensively in the field of international taxation and investigation. He has gained rich experience while being Director in Mumbai and Director General (Investigation) in Gujarat. Apart from this, he has taken training in various training programs in places like IIM Bangalore, Singapore, Wharton etc.

Prior to joining the Election Commission, Sushil Chandra was the Chairman of the Taxation Regulatory Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) i.e. Central Board of Direct Taxes. He is the second IRS officer after TS Krishnamurthy to be appointed Election Commissioner. Explain that Krishnamurthy was appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner in 2004.

Responsibility to conduct elections in these states including UP:

During the tenure of Sushil Chandra, the Election Commission will conduct assembly elections in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur etc. The term of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is to end on May 14, 2022. In other states also, the term of the Legislative Assembly will end from March to May next year.
