Kerala: Muslim Organizations protest against Unisex School Uniform

The Government Higher Secondary School in Balussery made a unisex dress i.e. pants(trousers) and shirt a part of its uniform for both boys and girls from Wednesday.

New Delhi: Amid protests by some members of the Muslim Coordination Committee, Kerala's Balussery Government Girls Higher Secondary School on Wednesday introduced the Unisex Uniforms system for its students, which is known as the state's higher education system.

Unisex Uniform in Kerala:

Minister R Bindu (Kerala Higher Education Minister R Bindu) has told a revolutionary step. However, protests have started in more than a dozen schools of the state over the decision of uniform uniform for students.

A section of the Muslim community is not happy with this decision. She has alleged that the Left Front government is forcibly imposing modern dress on school children. A protest rally was organized under the leadership of Muslim Coordination Committee at Balussery in Kozhikode district on Wednesday.

Protest against Gender neutral dress in Kerala:

The Government Higher Secondary School in Balussery made a unisex dress i.e. pants(trousers) and shirt a part of its uniform for both boys and girls from Wednesday.The new uniform pattern has been introduced for higher classes i.e. after 10th. State Higher Education Minister R. Bindu inaugurated it.

Many women's organizations appreciated this new initiative saying that it will help in bridging the gender gap. Bindu, who inaugurated the school's new gender neutral uniform, said those who oppose such measures are working against the interests of Kerala and its future generations. Bindu said, "At a time when the world is ushering in an era of gender justice and equality, Balussery Government Girls School has taken a revolutionary step. I am glad to have the opportunity to officially inaugurate the school's new Unisex Uniform, which has been welcomed openly by the students.

He said that people always oppose new changes. However, such people are not protecting the interests of Kerala and our future generations, the education minister said. Those who love children will never resist such progressive changes. Those who love children will support our climate-friendly clothing and children's freedom.
