Kamal Haasan faces flak for curt tweet mourning Jayalalithaa's death

Chennai: After Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was declared dead on Monday night at 11.30 pm, a pall of gloom prevailed across the entire state and people belonging to different communities, be it filmdom, politics or sports, started mourning her death.

Kamal Haasan, however, made a curt tweet on Tuesday that irked many followers of the deceased politician.

His tweet meant, "Deep sympathy for those who depend on Jayalalithaa."

His tweet seriously offended a number of Tamilians and others across the country and they instantly started criticising the Southern superstar.

In an official statement on Monday night, Apollo Hospital, where Amma took her last breath, said, "With indescribable grief, we announce the sad demise of our esteemed honourable chief minister of Tamil Nadu Puratchi Thalaivi Amma at 11:30 PM today, 5-12-2016."

Jaya was hospitalised on September 22 with complains of fever and dehydration. She passed away a day after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday.

Significantly, Kamal Haasan had a serious fall out with Jayalalithaa when she had banned Vishwaroopam, which starred the veteran actor, in Tamil Nadu.

After the ban was imposed, Kamal Haasan, in an emotional speech, had said, "I could be forced to leave Tamil Nadu and India because I am fed up of being played around in a dirty game of politics."
