Jammu: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front chief and separatist leader Yasin Malik was detained late night on Friday from his Maisuma residence and was taken to the Kothibagh Police Station. Later, he was shifted to Central jail same night.

Malik’s detention comes ahead of a crucial hearing on Article 35-A in Supreme Court which is likely to take place between February 26-28.

Among its other provisions, Article 35A bars people from outside Jammu and Kashmir acquire any immovable property in the state.

After the arrest of Yasin Malik, the rumours of Central Government's positive take on Article 35-A started to trend, which can cause chaos and disorder in the valley. To deal with this, 100 companies of CRPF are being deployed from Jammu.

What is in 35-A:

- The person outside Jammu and Kashmir can not buy real estate/ immovable-property in the state.

- No person from another state can become a citizen here.

-If a girl in the state marries an outside boy, then all her rights dissolve.

-Because of 35-A, refugees from West Pakistan are still deprived of the fundamental rights of the state and their identity.

- People living in Jammu and Kashmir who do not have a permanent residence certificate, can vote in the Lok Sabha elections but can not vote in the local body elections.

- Only tjose people will be considered as the citizen of the state who were either living in the state on May 14, 1954, or had been living in the state for 10 years before this date or had acquired property before or during this time.

it is to be mentioned that earlier this week, the security cover of 18 separatists, including Yaseen Malik and 155 politicians was withdrawn in the aftermath of Pluwama terror attack by Pakistan based outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad.

On February 18, the security cover of senior separatist leaders Mirwaiz, Abdul Gani Bhat, Fazal Haq Qureshi, Bilal Lone, Hashim Qureshi and Shabir Shah was also withdrawn.
