New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s plea in the INX Media corruption case related to senior Congress leader P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram was heard in the High Court on Monday. The court extended the stay on the trial court proceedings in the matter and adjourned the hearing till August 27.

Delhi HC extend stay on trial court proceeding:

The CBI had challenged a trial court's 5 Mart 2021 decision, which had directed the agency to allow the accused and their counsel to inspect the documents kept in the mall. Justice Gupta asked the counsel for the agency to comply with a Supreme Court order on the issue.

INX Media Case:

Justice Mukta Gupta said in his order that the Supreme Court has settled the issue. States have been directed to make laws on deficiencies in criminal prosecution. The court said that the interim order will continue in the matter. He then fixed August 27 as the next date for hearing the matter.

The High Court had on May 18 stayed the trial proceedings in the case involving Chidambaram and his son. It had issued notices to Chidambaram, Karti and others seeking their response on the CBI's plea. It is noteworthy that in this case former Union Minister P Chidambaram is currently out of jail on bail.

P Chidambaram is out on bail in the case:

The CBI had registered the case on May 15, 2017. In this, Chidambaram was accused of irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media Group in 2007 for receiving foreign donations of Rs 305 crore when he was the finance minister. Later, the ED had registered a money laundering case.
