New Delhi: Central government has offered from foreign manufacturers to buy hundred fighter aircrafts but only if they are made in India in collaboration to a local partner. Modi government has taken the step to strengthen the military power.

"The immediate shortfall is 200. That would be the minimum we would be looking at," an air officer said.

"We are testing the waters, testing the foreign firms' willingness to move production here and to find out their expectations," a government source said.

The efforts are also being made to face both China and Pakistan. Earlier, India had inked deal with France for 36 Rafale Fighter Jets. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had called the deal as the best one.
