India, Australia ink six pacts including cooperation in counter-terrorism

New Delhi: India and Australia on Monday inked six pacts in a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull. One of the six pacts was to boost cooperation in counter-terrorism.

PM Modi said both the countries have made major strides in our bilateral relationship in recent years.

"We are aware that in this globalised world challenges like terrorism and cyber-security extend beyond boundaries of our regions," said PM Modi at joint statement with Australian PM here.

Emphasizing on peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, he said education and research are focus areas in their engagement and building world class institution is the priority of his government.

Praising Australia Prime Minister, PM Modi said that under his leadership the relationship between India and Australia will touch new milestones.

“Your visit gives us the opportunity to shape new priorities in our strategic partnership,” PM told Malcolm Turnbull during the joint statement.

Australian PM said that his government will keep on providing opportunities to Indian students. “We will continue to ensure that we provide outstanding opportunities for Indian students,” he said.

PM Modi and Australian PM also visited Mandi House metro station where both took a ride in Delhi Metro. There were chants of 'Modi, Modi' at the metro station. PM Modi and Malcolm Turnbull also took selfie in the Delhi metro train.

They also visited Akshardham temple and offered prayers.

It may be mentioned here that this is for the first time when Malcolm has visited India as Australian PM.

Turnbull,who is on a four-day visit to India, will visit Mumbai on Tuesday where he is scheduled to attend several events.
