Huge amount of explosives, ammunition found inside Red Fort well

New Delhi: The Red Fort was cordoned off by the police after ammunition and boxes of explosives were found inside a well in the historic fort on Monday.

Bomb disposal teams of NSG as well as the Delhi Police and dog squads have reached to the spot and have started investigating the matter. Fire tenders have also been rushed to the spot.

"ASI, during the cleaning process of the walls of the Red Fort found some ammunition and explosive boxes in one of the wells behind the publication building," said a senior police official.

"After cordoning the area, the police immediately informed the NSG and Army. NSG bomb disposal teams are at the spot now," he added.

"Five mortars and 44 live rounds were recovered from the well. There were 87 fired rounds that were also found," an NSG official said.
