HC grants bail to 41 accused in Puttingal Devi temple fire case

Kerela: The Puttingal Devi temple firework accused were granted bail by the Kerela High Court, on Monday, as Police failed to file chargesheet against them within the given time-frame

Justice P Ubaid who granted bail to the 41 accused instructed them to surrender their passports to the police. The accused were prohibited from leaving the state. The accused including 15 managing committee members of the temple, firework contractor and his workers were charged under section 304 of IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

Backgrounder:

The temple tragedy had claimed over 100 live in Kollam district. The incident had taken place during the early hours of April 10 during a festival at the temple.
