Gurugram: In an attempt to put the suppress the voice of journalists, Haryana Police on Sunday lathicharged Asian News International (ANI) personnel during a protest outside Ryan International School, where a heinous murder of a seven-year-old student took place inside the school washroom.

ANI personnel Naveen Yadav and Vinod Kumar were injured when police launched baton charge on protesters.

Several political party leaders came in support of journalists targeted by cops, saying, terming the attack condemnable.

"Attack on media is condemnable. In a democracy, government don't work with lathis and bullets," said Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

"Media is one of the pillars of democracy and raises concerns of the people, it should not be suppressed like that," he added.

CPI's D Raja said that the same happeened during Dera agitation and Haryana police is gaining notoriety of attacking media.

Congress' R Surjewala demanded apology of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and asked for an action against the policemen.

Haryana Education Minister Rambilas Sharma, while talking to the media persons, said that the school management is responsible for the safety of students inside the school premises, but they have failed to do so.

He held the school management responsible for the killing of the Class 2 student and hence, the management and owner have been booked under Section 75 of the Juvenile Act.

Sharma said that police had already arrested a school bus conductor Ashok Kumar for brutally killing the child and the weapon (knife) used for killing was also recovered by police.

“Police will file a charge sheet in the fast-track court within a week. If parents of the killed student are not satisfied with it, the state government will be ready to conduct an investigation through any agency, including the CBI,” Sharma said.

Pradhuman, a Class 2 student, was found dead on Friday by a school staffer in the washroom with his throat slit. The boy had reached the school in the morning, and within an hour he was found dead.

The boy’s family resides in Maruti Kunj Society in the same area. Pradhuman’s father is a senior executive with an export house in the Kherki Daula area. His sister is a Class 5 student in the same school.
