Marking a significant milestone in Indian tourism, the Gujarat government, in collaboration with Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), is set to launch the country's first-ever submarine tourism initiative. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Gujarat government and MDL paves the way for an extraordinary underwater experience for tourists around Bet Dwarka—a small island off the coast of Dwarka, a city associated with Lord Krishna.

This ambitious project draws parallels to the Titanic submersible expedition, capturing the imagination of those seeking adventure. Scheduled to become operational before Diwali 2024, the submarine tourism venture aims to explore the diverse marine wonders surrounding Bet Dwarka, including a submerged city believed to be created by Lord Krishna.

The planned submarine, weighing approximately 35 tonnes, is designed to accommodate 30 passengers at a time. With the capability to dive around 100 meters below sea level, passengers will be treated to breathtaking views of the underwater world. The seating arrangement, configured in two rows with window views for 24 passengers, ensures that everyone enjoys the best of underwater landscapes. The vessel will be piloted by two experienced pilots and a professional crew.

Anticipated to bring economic benefits to the region, this groundbreaking project is expected to generate employment, attract investments, and boost tourism. An official announcement regarding the submarine tourism initiative is anticipated at the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.

According to Saurabh Pardhi, Managing Director of Gujarat Tourism, this unique project is poised to significantly enhance tourism in Dwarka. Known for its religious significance and the revered Dwarkadhish Temple, Dwarka has been a prominent pilgrimage site for Hindus. The introduction of submarine tourism adds a new dimension to the city's offerings, providing tourists with an unprecedented opportunity to explore the mystical underwater world.

As the countdown begins for the official announcement at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, the submarine tourism initiative is set to make waves, not only as a unique travel experience but also as a catalyst for economic growth and increased interest in the culturally rich region.
