Ahmedabad: To foster patriotism in the students of Gujarat schools, students are instructed to answer their roll calls with 'Jai Hind' or 'Jai Bharat' instead of marking it with a 'yes sir' or 'present sir' from January 1, a notification issued on Monday stated.

The objective of this new practice is to "foster patriotism among students right from childhood," reasoned the authorities.
