All 28 accused of Post-Godhra riots case acquitted by Kakol Court

Gandhinagar: In absence of evidence, all the 28 accused of Post-Godhra riots have been acquitted by the Gandhinagar court of Gujarat on Friday.

The Additional District Judge in Kakol, B D patel said, "There was not enough evidence against the accused as all the witnesses claim that they were unable to identify the culprits."

The accused includes Chairman Govind Patel of Kakol Nagrik Cooperative Bank.

They were charged with creating violence and vandalising public property.

The incident:

The 28 people were accused of rioting and destroying property of minority community at Paliyad village in Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district on February 28, 2002.

It may be mentioned that, on February 27, 2002, around 58 people had lost their lives when the S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express was set on fire at Godhra railway station.
