Govt makes Aadhar card compulsory to get subsidised food grain

New Delhi: Central government on Thursday made Aadhar Card compulsory for getting subsidised food grains from all Public Distribution System (PDS) shops.

The government has given time till June 30 to apply for Aadhar Card.

People, who do not have Aadhar Card, will continue to receive subsidised food grain if they provide proof of having applied for it, along with any identity proof.

“Aadhaar obviates the need for producing multiple documents to prove one’s identity and its use as identity document for delivery of benefits simplifies government delivery processes and brings in transparency,” Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said in a tweet.

According to Aadhar act, it is compulsory to produce document for identification for any transfers made from the Consolidated Fund of India, said Food Ministry.
