Four Delhi students arrested for stalking Smriti Irani released on bail

New Delhi: Four Delhi students who were arrested for stalking, misbehaving and overtaking the Textiles Minister Smriti Irani's car were released on bail on Sunday.

The students namely Anand Sharma, Avinash, Shitanshu and Kunal were heavily drunk and were out off their senses. They were arrested by the Delhi police on April 1 as they were chasing Irani's car.

Police, on Saturday night detained them and interrogated at the Chanakyapuri Police Station. Later, they arrested the accused for stalking the union minister. The culprits, today, were produced before the court where they were released on bail.

Police said, "Irani's security staff complained to the Police Control Room (PCR) around 5 pm about the four youths chasing her car and trying to overtake her pilot car near the Myanmar Embassy in Chanakyapuri area."

"They have been held for speeding, drunk driving and misbehaving with the minister and her staff," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police RP Meena said.

Dependra Pathak, Chief Spokesperson Delhi Police, said, "The medical examination of the students were done where the doctors declared the presence of alcohol in their blood."

The students, aged between 18-20, belong to Ram Lal Anand College of Delhi University. They were returning in a hired Santro car from a birthday party in South Delhi.
