EC restricts media from using astrologers to predict poll results

New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday issued an advisory to television channels and newspapers to not use astrologers and political analysts to predict poll results before the voting ends.

EC, in its directive, said, "Telecasting/publishing similar programmes in future polling during the prohibited period shall be punishable under Section 126(A) to ensure free, fair and transparent election.”

It may be mentioned that a similar directions were issued during the recently concluded assembly elections in five states. But it was constraint to only showing exit polls in the prohibited period.

FIRs were also lodged against editors of Dainik Jagaran newspaper for publishing exit poll result over its website after the first phase elections in Uttar Pradesh.
